SAVE PUBLIC ACCESS!

PURPOSE

Save Public Access is a group of concerned citizens dedicated
to the full realization of public access to information
via television, radio, posting boards, websites, printed publications
and all other forms of media in Humboldt County,
which must be available to facilitate in a non-biased manner the perspectives of all,
and which must be run in an open and deeply democratic fashion directly by the people.

Our first project is now being implemented, to replace the on-line discussion boards
of the
Arcata Eye, Arcata Journal, Ubuntu Arcata and Redwood Peace and Justice Center
which were actually destroyed by their own creators rather than to allow for free speech!

A special welcome to Hilaire Nollette, who eliminated his supposed "Free Speech" site less than a month after its creation! He joins the Eye's Kevin Hoover & Terrance McNally, the Journal's Rob Amerman and Bobby Harris and the Center's Dave Meserve & Melanie Williams in our Pro-Censorship Hall of Shame!

Since the other alternatives have been self-deleted, please learn about and register to participate in:

HUMBOLDT PUBLIC FORUM

The City government of Arcata has yet to properly account for the
heedless destruction of the public information kiosk in front of City Hall
perpetrated by employees acting under the direction of City Manager Dan Hauser in 2000.

Do even Bob & Connie question the demise of the Kiosk?

In development: A plan of action to restore the Kiosk to the people of Arcata.

Channel 12 is now in its fifth year
of operating under an unelected, unaccountable group.
Whether ACAT under Roland Yartzoff and his fellow unelected officers,
APEG under Dan Hauser and his fellow unelected advisory group,
or HCMC under Lee Purkerson and his fellow unelected Interim Board...

NO ELECTIONS = NO DEMOCRACY = NO LASTING PUBLIC ACCESS

New update on local government hearings regarding Public Access Television:

The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors and the City Councils
of Eureka, Fortuna, Rio Dell, Ferndale, Blue Lake (also representing Trinidad) and Arcata
hosted presentations by Sue Buske of the Buske consulting group,
hired by local governments to negotiate a new Cable Franchise agreement with Cox Cable.

Informal Minutes of Supervisors Item on Public Access Negotiations.

In an ironic development, Arcata also discussed the issue on Wednesday the 3rd of February,
but chose not to post the agenda for this City Council meeting
on their own Agendas page, unlike all the other local governments...
why would Arcata's officials wish to hide this from the wider world?
Despite these efforts, we snuck into their meeting and provide the following
Informal Minutes of Arcata City Council Item on Public Access Negotiations.

Some of the back story:

The latest update on the status of cable franchise negotiations was provided
by Charles Douglas and published in the Humboldt Advocate on the 5th of January.

A very insightful article on this subject was written in late 2002
by Dex Anderson when he ran for Arcata City Council.

Eureka City Councilmember Jeff Leonard wrote up a rough outline
of the direction of cable franchise negotiations in his Times-Standard column.

For a detailed back history of how ACAT Public Access Channel 12
was stolen from the people and put in the hands of special interests,
see the ACAT pages from mid-2000 at the Public Access Awareness Association.
